While touring Vancouver British Columbia in Canada my wife and I visited a History Museum. One of the Indian art works was a basket with vertical sides rising from a pedestal. This inspired me to design a similar basket using pine straw. I finished the stitching and entered it in the N.C. State Fair one year. In my haste I did not allow the shellac finish to fully cure. It won a ribbon but not first place. Unfortunately the weight of the top and the lack of time for the shellac to cure resulted in a pronounced and disappointing leaning. After the fair I separated the top from the pedestal and that became the Victorian Indian Basket.
